In 1864, the authorities of Jouarre decided to transfer this cross of the former cemetery in the center of the Saint-Paul place, facing the crypts. Whereas, you can notice that the stock of this cross, probably achieved in the XIIIth century, was monolith, that is to say in only one holding, which is quite rare. The site of this cross directly sends back to the religious History of Jouarre. Indeed, it is on this place that was risen in the years 660 a basilica. The recent works of archaeologist G. R. Delahaye, following those of abbot Thiercelin in the XIXth century permitted us besides to recover the foundations of this former building.
